The name Hummingbird refers to the bird itself. The new Celestron spotting scopes possess all the characteristics of these small birds: very small, even microscopic size, great mobility, and the ability to cover significant distances relative to their size. The Celestron Hummingbird spotting scope can be easily taken anywhere, at any time, whether into the backyard or on the longest expedition.
These microscopic spotting scopes use ED glass objectives; it is thanks to this that they could be created – low-dispersion glass allows for high-quality images free of chromatic aberration (annoying colored fringes around contrasting objects) even with an exceptionally short focal length. Such a small focal length, in turn, allows the Hummingbird scope to be so microscopic that it fits in your hand and coat pocket.
Equipped with a 1.25-inch zoom eyepiece and an adjustable eyecup, it allows you to conveniently adjust the magnification to the object currently being viewed. The minimum magnification is only 7-9x, so there's nothing to stop you from observing with it without a tripod and during evening excursions, as the image is exceptionally bright and clear then. This is due to the FMC multi-coatings. If higher magnifications are needed, thanks to its unparalleled lightness and mobility, a small monopod with a 1/4-inch mount will suffice for this scope. The aforementioned coatings and ED optics will then provide a perfectly contrasted, clear, and colorful image.
The standard 1.25-inch eyepiece mount allows for easy replacement with other eyepieces of this type, which opens up unlimited possibilities for Hummingbird users to choose additional, high-quality astronomical eyepieces.
