DJI Enterprise Drones – Matrice 4E and 4T | Uses and Differences
DJI Matrice 4E or DJI Matrice 4T – this is one of the most common questions among companies involved in mapping, inspections, and infrastructure analysis. Both models share an identical mechanical platform, the same flight time, and range. They differ in one key element: the M4E has a 4/3" mapping camera with a mechanical shutter, while the M4T has a 640×512 thermal camera. Below you will find specific data to help you make a decision.

When to choose Matrice 4E
The M4E is the choice when you are creating orthophotos, 3D models, or conducting geodetic measurements. The mechanical shutter eliminates the rolling shutter effect during fast flight along the mapping route – lines remain straight, which directly translates into the quality of orthophotos. A 0.5 s interval and 2.8 km²/flight coverage mean that a large area can be handled in a single mission. With RTK and D-RTK 3, you achieve 3 cm without the need to set up GCPs.
Industries: surveying, construction, mining (volume measurements), spatial planning, forestry.
When to choose Matrice 4T
The M4T is the choice when you need temperature analysis or night operations. The 640×512 thermal camera (UHR up to 1280×1024) detects hot-spots on PV panels, overheated connectors on HV lines, and people lost in the field – invisible to an RGB camera. The 100 m NIR light and 200× zoom enable object identification in complete darkness.
Industries: energy, photovoltaic farms, fire brigade, mountain rescue (GOPR/TOPR), facility security.
What they have in common
An identical platform means more than just the same weight – it means shared batteries, chargers, spare parts, and training. One battery set and one charging hub support both drones.
- The same battery – no additional costs
- The same 48 MP tele camera (168 mm, 2–200× zoom) and 1800 m rangefinder
- The same built-in RTK and compatibility with D-RTK 3
- The same IP54 resistance, operating temperature -20°C to +50°C
- The same RC Plus 2 Enterprise controller and DJI Pilot 2 software
- Compatibility with DJI Dock 3 – both are suitable for autonomous missions
FAQ
Can the M4T map instead of the M4E?
Technically yes – the M4T has an RGB camera and RTK. But the lack of a mechanical shutter and a smaller sensor (no 4/3" 20 MP) result in poorer photogrammetric results during fast flight. For professional mapping with geodetic requirements, choose the M4E.
Does the M4E detect thermal anomalies?
No – the M4E does not have a thermal camera. For thermal inspections of PV panels or power lines, you need the M4T.
What is the actual range in Poland?
12 km (CE) for both models. The often-quoted 25 km is an FCC value – a standard applicable in the USA, not in Poland.
