DJI Matrice 4E – RTK drone for mapping and photogrammetry

DJI Matrice 4E is an enterprise drone designed for mapping and photogrammetry — mechanical shutter, 4/3" 20 MP camera with 0.5s interval, 2.8 km² coverage in one flight, 3 cm accuracy without GCPs with RTK. 49 minutes flight time, O4 Enterprise range 25 km (FCC) / 12 km (CE), Class C2.

Laser rangefinder and measurement precision

The built-in laser rangefinder up to 1800 m allows marking and measuring objects in the field directly during the flight — without returning and manual measurement. Results are transmitted to DJI Pilot 2 in real-time.

Mission planning and terrain analysis

DJI Pilot 2 allows planning mapping missions directly on the map — setting the route, overlay settings, interval and flight altitude. Mission results are synchronized with DJI FlightHub 2 and can be exported to DJI Terra for processing orthomaps and 3D models.

Applications

  • Mapping and 3D photogrammetry — 2.8 km²/flight, 0.5s interval, mechanical shutter eliminating blur at high speed
  • Surveying and measurements — 3 cm (H) / 5 cm (V) accuracy without GCP with RTK, 5 cm / 7 cm without RTK with GCP
  • Infrastructure inspections — 48 MP 168 mm tele camera, 2–200× zoom, 1800 m rangefinder
  • Environmental analyses and investment planning — orthomaps and DEM from a single mission
  • Monitoring hard-to-reach areas — IP54, operating temperature from -20°C to +50°C

M4E vs M4T — which one to choose?
Matrice 4E — mechanical shutter, 4/3" CMOS, 2.8 km²/flight, 3 cm accuracy — photogrammetry and surveying.
Matrice 4T — the same mechanical platform, but instead of a 4/3" wide-angle camera — 640×512 thermal imaging (UHR 1280×1024).
Both have identical tele camera, rangefinder, and flight time. Choose M4E when mapping is a priority, M4T for thermal imaging and energy inspections.

FAQ

Why is a mechanical shutter important for mapping?

During fast flights on a mapping route, an electronic shutter causes a "rolling shutter" effect — vertical lines appear slanted, which degrades the quality of the orthomap. The M4E's mechanical shutter eliminates this effect, allowing faster flights without loss of data quality.

Does the M4E require Ground Control Points (GCPs)?

With RTK — no. 3 cm (H) / 5 cm (V) accuracy without GCPs. Control points can only be used for independent verification of data quality. Without RTK (GPS only), you need GCPs for accuracy below 10 cm.

What is the range in Poland (CE)?

12 km in CE standards applicable in Poland (vs 25 km FCC). BVLOS operations beyond VLOS range require PAŻP permits regardless of the drone's technical range.
