DJI Dock 3 – an autonomous docking station for Matrice 4D and 4TD drones

The DJI Dock 3 is a fully autonomous docking station for DJI industrial drones. When combined with the DJI Matrice 4D and DJI Matrice 4TD, it creates a drone-in-a-box system — the drone takes off automatically, completes its mission, and returns to the station without the need for an on-site operator. Management is performed remotely via DJI FlightHub 2.

DJI Dock 3 – autonomous docking station

How DJI Dock 3 works

The station stores the drone, charges its battery (15%→95% in approx. 27 minutes in RTF mode), and ensures safe takeoff and landing conditions. After a mission is planned in DJI FlightHub 2, the system automatically launches the drone at a specified time or in response to an alarm — the drone executes its route and returns to the station. IP56, operates from -30°C to +50°C, ground or vehicle mounted.

  • automatic takeoff and landing — readiness time approx. 10 seconds
  • battery charging without operator intervention
  • 9 antennas, Ethernet 1 Gbps + 4G (with DJI Cellular Dongle 2)
  • environmental sensors — wind, rain, temperature, humidity
  • Class II lightning protection (20 kA)
  • 24/7 missions, remote management via DJI FlightHub 2

DJI Dock 3 Applications

Power Infrastructure Inspections

Drones launched from DJI Dock 3 automatically inspect power lines, transformer stations, and photovoltaic farms. The Matrice 4TD's thermal camera (640×512 IR) detects overheated system components before they lead to failure. Regular missions eliminate the need for costly ground or helicopter inspections.

Monitoring Industrial Facilities and Critical Infrastructure Protection

Industrial plants, refineries, airports, ports, and logistics centers use Dock systems for autonomous security patrols. The drone can react automatically to an alarm from a CCTV or PSIM system — without waiting for an operator.

Photovoltaic Farm Inspections

The Matrice 4TD with a thermal camera identifies damaged PV modules and hot-spots in one autonomous flight — without going onto the roof or engaging on-site technicians.

Drones compatible with DJI Dock 3

DJI Matrice 4D – mapping and inspections

4/3" CMOS 20 MP camera with mechanical shutter, 48 MP 168 mm telephoto zoom, 1800 m laser rangefinder. Flight time 54 minutes, IP55, O4+ range 25 km (FCC). Covers 2.8 km² in one flight, 0.5-second photo interval — the best platform for mapping and photogrammetry in the Dock system.

DJI Matrice 4TD – thermal imaging and security

All Matrice 4D cameras plus 640×512 thermal imaging (UHR up to 1280×1024), range -20°C to +600°C, 100 m NIR lamp. Identical mechanical platform — same flight time, IP55 and range. Choose 4TD when temperature analysis, night monitoring, and SAR are priorities.

Why implement the DJI Dock 3 system

  • Inspection automation — instead of sending a team to the field, the mission starts itself
  • Increased monitoring frequency with lower operating costs
  • 24/7 operation regardless of weather (IP56, -30°C to +50°C)
  • Instant access to aerial data via DJI FlightHub 2
  • Scalability — central management of multiple stations over a large area
